I am regularly surprised at things that I see, hear or read.

I had an unsettling experience a few days ago when I went to the grocery store.

As I was checking out, the woman who was on the other side of the counter told me the amount that I owed and then asked if I wanted to donate an additional amount to the store’s children’s charity.

“ We are asking people to add $2.00 to their purchase so that we can give the $2.00 to charity”, she said.

“Sure” I said.

Anytime I’m asked I try to say yes. I feel lucky to have the chance to give something so easily.

The woman commented that I was the first one to say yes today.

“When did you begin work?” I asked

“I have been here for 3 hours”, she told me.

I was stunned and had no idea that people are so tied to what they have or are so needy themselves.

Either way, the free and happy giving to someone in need is of great help to the person giving.
